DAY ONE
Positive Solutions for Solving Standard Behavioral Problems (a.k.a., positive training in general)
Very often dogs do things that annoy you and very often, the way these problems are handled may intensify the behaviors you dont want as well as creating more serious issues. Many of these unwanted behaviors are oftentimes misinterpreted as aggression, dominance, or just plain being stubborn or stupid. The behaviors that will be discussed are: jumping, pulling on leash, not coming when called, charging through doorways, nipping,* stealing and guarding* objects, etc. We will be breaking down the solutions for these behaviors in small easy steps, utilizing, in some cases, the dogs own body language to get your point across, thus making it clear to your dog what you want from them without the use of traditional corrections. Most of the time, the solutions are quite simple and may involve only a change in your own behavior to change the dogs behavior.
The solutions: For dog owners or trainers of any level, this seminar will address typical problem behaviors using positive training methods. Positive solutions are discussed and implemented in this seminar.
*This seminar is "not" for aggressive dogs
Requirements for bringing a dog to this seminar: Prong collars, choke collars, head halters, shock collars and no-pull harnesses are not allowed. Bring a fanny pack or carpenters nail apron, toys, water and bowl, crate, a one gallon bag (really!) filled to the brim with yummy treats,* cut up into pea sized pieces (dont feed your dog his/her breakfast!) Bring a clicker if you have one and a standard 6 foot leash (no retractable leashes please). Wear comfortable sneakers and clothing.
Please send the following questionnaire and waiver with your registration form.

DAY TWO
Shaping
Remember the old "hot and cold" game we played as kids? Well, shaping is similar except we leave off the "cold" portion. While many behaviors can most certainly be lured, shaping tends to create a dog that *thinks* rather than just one who reacts to your lure. And that thinking produces a wonderful drive for training. Of course, there are some behaviors that can't be lured and for that you need shaping!
Shaping teaches you how to truly break down behaviors into the smallest of approximations, how to recognize them when you see them, when to start a session, stop a session, when to raise or lower your criteria. Shaping enhances the dog/owner relationship.
From agility to rally to competition obedience to musical freestyle to tricks to animal husbandry, shaping will increase your creativity, timing and sensitivity will increase.
Please send the following form along with your registration.
