| On Sunday, September 21st, some 200 of us gathered at the north end of Barrie Ontario to hear Dr. Jean Dodds speak about nutrition, vaccinations and thyroid issues in dogs. The event was hosted by the American Staffordshire Club of Canada and Fox-Fire Publishing Inc. The day was long, the information abundant and no one left hungry or without plenty to consider. Through intensive slide presentations, hand out notes and vigorous Q&A sessions, we were furnished with the latest information on the subject at hand. If you wish to contact Dr. Dodds, you may email her at hemopet@hotmail.com A significant donation on behalf of the hosts and the attendees is made to Hemopet. The Dog Legislation Council of Canada (DLCC) raised vital funding selling pro bone dog biscuits. All proceeds, including profits will be dedicated to the Legal Challenge in Ontario against the breed specific legislation Bill 132.The biscuits were donated. Tammy St. Louis and her group of attendees could barely keep up with the brisk sales. For more information about DLCC visit http://www.doglegislationcouncilcanada.org/ Monica and Morley Segal were on hand to sell Monicas books at a reduced seminar price until a sudden and worrisome illness of their beloved Cavalier called them home. All profits from the book sales will be donated to the Rabies Challenge. All is well now with the Segals and their dog. If you wish to contact Monica please visit http://www.monicasegal.com/ The day was only marred by the report to animal control that some attendees had left their dogs unattended in cars. However, upon close inspect and with the intervention of one of our attendees, the officer was satisfied that the animals were indeed sheltered and comfortable and that their owners attended them regularly. Despite our tight conditions, much knowledge was imparted and when I looked around the room after the final slide, hoping no one would notice my own quivering lip, I?noticed other teary faces. The final slide was of foot prints in the sand and Dr. Dodds said that they are always with us like foot prints in the sand. Having just lost my own beloved a short time ago, this touched me deeply. Obviously I was not alone. All your appreciative thank yous made it very much more rewarding for me on a personal level. Many thanks to everyone involved in helping and contributing to a terrific day of education and comradarie and to the Kinsman group who sent me home with a lovely gift. Special appreciation to: Dr. Jean Dodds Anna Borenstein Dr. Barbara Ann Chidiak Kim Peters Sherri Hall The Staff and Managers of The Lions Gate Banquet Hall Good Bag contributors ... and all the attendees (Vet Techs, Veterinarians, Rescuers, Shelter Workers, Animal Control. Breeders, Pet Owners and group attendee organizers) It was a pleasure to meet you and speak to many by phone and most by email. But most gratifying is the knowledge that so many care enough about their dogs to open their minds and learn how to care for them correctly. Bev Lewis Fox-Fire Publishing Inc. | Hi Bev The seminar on Sunday was great. I just couldn't believe that woman's energy and experience! Talk about a work-a-holic. But imagine where we would be today without her? Still pumping vaccines into our dogs yearly! One suggestion I forgot to put on the evaluation sheet... I would have liked to see name tags. I'm sure there were people from the email lists there, and with name tags I might have been able to say hi to them. As it was, I didn't know any faces :( thanks so much for organising it Maggie Sparrow |
Dear Jean and Bev, Morley and I feel awful about rushing off the way we did. Thank you for your understanding and support. The good news is that Tori did not have seizures, although I can understand why one might think otherwise. She was having a severe bout of symptoms SM can cause, and it can look like seizures to those who are not familiar with it. Jean, you present beautifully, and the information is terrific. Morley, who is not known to focus on this sort of thing, was very focused today :). Bev, this was a great day (ok, partial day for us) as always. Jean, we are sending the full profit from sales to you. It's not a great amount, but we hope it will help. Monica Segal |

Good Morning Bev! Thank you for all you wonderful planning & putting on such an excellent seminar for Dr Dodds. As usual she was fabulous & everyone I spoke to loved it! | I just wanted to say thank you on behalf of the Dog Legislation Council of Canada for the promotion and selling of ProBone at the Jean Dodds Seminar. We sold just shy of 1000.00 worth of product! All profit since it was donated by the generous folks at Pro-Bone. The money generated is for the DLCC legal challenge. We were in appellate court this week and now await the decision. Appellate court consists of 3 judges. No new evidence was heard and specific portions of the case were requested by the judges to be argued. Less than 10% of cases receive reserve judgment and ours was one of them. I personally will take that as a good sign they felt necessary to deliberate aspects of our case. This process is very expensive. Our legal bills are in arrears and mounting. All dog owners need to stand with us in this fight for the rights of every dog owner in Canada. If you wish to donate online you may do so at www.bannedaid.com ProBone is a daily, multivitamin treat packed with antioxidants and immune system boosters. ProBone was developed by 30 year veteran champion dog breeder, Cathy Prothro. Through years of research, Cathy created the optimal balance of nutritional ingredients that enhanced her dogs health and increased longevity. Top quality ingredients including fresh fish, carrots, brown rice, blueberries and garlic. For more information about ProBone or to reorder please visit the website at www.pro-bone.com On a side note, I knew several people who attended the seminar. I hoped to attend myself, but couldnt swing it. I heard very positive, uplifting comments from each person. They came away feeling as though they learned a lot and energized with knowledge. Congrats on another success and thanks for helping us out once again! Lori Gray Chair of Events DLCC Member of the American Staffordshire Terrier Club of Canada |
