Canine Conflict Seminar Report Pictures Here The Canine Conflict Seminar was as always a resounding success with much information shared with attendees. Cheryl Smith and Calvin Thompson used 6 demonstration dogs to illustrate the various issues dogs have, how to safely and effectively deal with these issue. Each attendee received a written report/case study of the dog's issue and background. Group questions and answers addressed to each dog's owners further detailed the information on each dog. One of the dogs was on death row and his owner reports that he is doing very well with the ideas offered and now followed. A plan of action was developed for each demonstration dog with owners having the option of follow up after the event. The Dog Legislation Council of Canada raised $385 towards the legal challenge with a raffle of 10 prizes gathered and organized by Karin Apfel. Dr. Robert Curran was on hand to demonstrate his Cheryl Smith approved NewTrix head collar. He outfitted each demonstration dog with the appropriate sized collar and donated several to the Raffle table. Setter Sanctuary donated a carton of 10 boxes of their all natural cookies to the raffle and managed to earn $100 towards the Sanctuary work at the same time. The food was marvelous. The venue comfy and cool for the dogs with lots of free parking, easy access from highways in the lovely little town of Beeton Ontario. Cheryl and Calvin shared endless information and ideas with us and really helped the demonstration dogs. Following are a few of the comments from attendees. I am going to be watching for the next Cheryl Smith/Calvin seminar. Diane Duffy Excellent information provided and communicated. Presenters communicated their knowledge well. I really liked the handouts you gave re: 4ss." Melissa Cheslock Good location. Excellent seminar. Great catering. Excellent demonstrations. Very thorough explanation. Great Stories relating to family comparisons. Nancy Williams Thank-you for the excellent advice for myself and Woody. Vanessa Terveld Thanks for a great learning weekend, and the chance for Roscoe to be a demo dog. I appreciated the hall being cool - as you stated the dogs are so stressed to start with - we appreciated it for Roscoe - he was fairly stressed! Nancy Elliott I didn't have energy to make a lot of comments on my survey - but the content of the workshop was fantastic. I used the techniques learned as soon as I got home, and had an immediate positive response from all my dogs (except the mill dog Yorkie who has no teeth, poor eyesight and doesn't smell - so didn't respond well to the food reward/gentle command, and is too aroused to be able to benefit from my low level application of the techniques. I will need to put on my thinking cap to modify them for him). I learned a lot about myself too, and really feel more positive now about taking on the foster dogs I do. I'm glad to hear the cook was not ill. Thanks so much for all of it - well worth it. I was sure it would be, as I had heard so much about Cheryl that was positive. Thanks again. Jennifer Gaddes I for one had an amazing time. Cheryl actually made me cry a little when she was explaining to people that "the forest would be a silent place if only the 'best' birds sing". I wanted to hug her. Thanks again for a KICK ASS seminar Bev Melissa Bainbridge I just wanted to tell you how well run the seminar was and that I completely enjoyed every minute of it. I look forward to more seminars in the future. Very informative seminar with lots of ideas! Thanks again Sue Woodworth Just wanted to say thank you for a job well done. Excellent information and new ideas to teach. Nice idea to have demo dogs to learn from. Samantha Gagnon Comments without signature: Excellent The case study really seemed effective Learned a lot from watching you work with so many dogs, ie techniques and reasoning behind choices. Interesting presentation format 'Always enjoy a Cheryl and Calvin seminar Bev always does a good job Calvin was excellent with the animals So informative. Appropriate breaks in between seminar.
